The Nigerian economy has been through a lot these past few months and practically no one is laughing. Due to the fall in Oil prices which is basically Nigeria’s life source economically the naira has been hit pretty hard, the dollar keeps on appreciating and the
naira obviously keeps on depreciating. But that’s not why I’m writing this article that’s not why I’m vexed. I am so angry with my fellow Nigerians; yes some NIGERIANS are wicked and diabolical.
My question is how does
the dollar affect sachet water here in UNILAG?, how does the dollar affect the
price of palm Oil?(locally harvested), all of which are LOCALLY SOURCED. It pains
how the price of goods which are basically produced in Nigeria can skyrocket
just because of the fear of the dollar .I am heartbroken because I always
promote the locally made goods in Nigeria because they are cheaper and they
help to grow the economy. But the moment when people manipulate and connive
with their fellow traders just to hike price, it is not just wrong it is
illegal.
This article is just to vent out my anger on
some Nigerian traders and I know they might not read this article but it’s my
duty is to challenge and inform people about such to be aware of what is happening.
It’s also sad that these people are making the cost of living high while our
salaries have not increased relatively. So who is doing who here?, who is
feeling the brunt of the hike in price?, simple we Nigerians. We feel it and we
laugh it off but I won’t.
Today, if you ask those traders why such an
increase in price they will simply say the dollar rose and I’m like explain
more. They simply brush it off with a sigh. NO reason behind it, if they would
say increase in the cost of production it would be better to comprehend but they
always reply that the dollar rose and its affecting what they make at our back
yard, and I’m like ohhh really. But we bow down to these people because
honestly Nigerians are tired no spirit in us, we just want that money. My
beloved readers you can be a billionaire and your money can’t afford a three
square meal for your family just ask the Zimbabweans what they passed through.
However there is another side to this economic conundrum,
if and only if those goods were imported then I would have no need to type this
article, why? because they have to pay higher than they paid before for less of
the quantity. But here what’s happening, most of these goods which are imported
will obviously increase in price and most of these traders have families to
feed and things to take care of. This might be the reason why a locally made
product will increase in price all of a sudden, because they all want to meet
up with the increase in their basic needs.
So the solution is simply to be less dependent
on the dollar, to able to improve our local industries. To build ourselves because
I bet you, if you invest well in Nigerians the returns will be astonishing.
In conclusion I want to thank my readers and my
supporters all over the world, who are always interested in my post. I am
always humbled and inspired by your . This article is basically meant to vent
my anger on some Nigerians that make it hard for everyone and also to analyze
the problem that the economy is facing. I pray for a better Nigeria and for
patriotic Nigerians.
