THE IMPLICATION OF CORRUPTION ON THE FUTURE OF THE YOUTH USING NIGERIA AS A CASE STUDY.

It is beyond doubt that the above title, points to the fact that our great nation NIGERIA is corrupt. Even a lay man from the title knows that our country is in a great ruckus. I called it great because it has a serious implication on the future of the young ones and it is a pity that many of
us especially our leaders do not know that. We all mention corruption but do we actually know what corruption means? What is Corruption? Where does it start from? Why is it prevalent in our leaders? What are the multiplier effect if I may say? What are the solutions? These are questions that would be running through your mind as you read this article, but you will agree with me that all these questions may not be well answered as everyone will have different things to say about the disease called corruption. Corruption may not be annihilated but could be reduced to the barest minimum.

I was involved in a discussion as of recent which led me into putting up with this article, the person leading the discussion shared his grief on the current state of the nation, that is the current state of our Naira and then corruption came in, you will agree with me that corruption in this context refers to the dishonest conduct of those in power to simply put, most of our leadersabuse their office just to get private gains. In our country today, resources meant for the development of the society and the growth of the people are being diverted by this so-called politicians into their private account. You wake up every morning to the news that politicians are arraigned for missing figures of money, you hear of #10bn, #50m, and so many more and the question I ask myself is what are they keeping all this money for? Generations unborn? When people are suffering just to put food on their table, if not generations unborn, then why the diversion of funds meant for the growth of our nationinto private account? That question cannot be answered though but that brings us to the implication of this greediness attributed by our leaders. How will our future look like with all this happening?

The implication of corruption in Nigeria is no doubt widespread, as it cuts across to various sectors in the country. The effect relates to political, social, environmental and economic effects. Talking about politics, corruption destroys our democracy, it brings about negative consequences such as reducing political participation, the masses will lose interest in political activities as there is nothing good to take from the government. This distance the government from the people affecting the future of the young ones and generations unborn. The society tends to face problem of accountability as there is no transparency in activities that happen in the society, there is no mutual co-operation which endangers the relationship between the youth and the society in the future. Economically speaking, the country becomes poor gradually, much needed projects become neglected; projects such as schools, hospitals, roads, and resource centers are not available enough thereby discouraging investments from outside the country. This threatens our future. YES, OUR FUTURE. Our future is not in our hands, it’s in the hands of these gluttonous politicians who are our leaders. We can only hope our President can be successful in his war against Corruption and put an end to what seems to hinder our country from achieving its full potentials. We are a nation, destined for greatness, a bright future awaits our youth, lets support our president in his anti-graft war and put our faith in GOD, so that our future will be in hands of God-spirited leaders. We have a GREAT FUTURE.
