PROSTITUTION AND THE WORLD.

Prostitutes as women  bear various names such as Oloshos, Hoes, Bitches, whore, hooker, call girl, escort, etc. for the ladies while men are popularly known as gigolo, rent boy, weeping willy etc., they go by many names in various parts of the world. However one thing unites them into one global
perspective or concept and that is payment for sex. They basically give out their self dignity for a few bucks and when I mean a few bucks I mean as low as 2000 naira. Basically prostitutes are found in cosmopolitan cities of various countries around the world, for the sake of my readers Nigeria will be used as a case study. Now, in Nigeria there are cities which are renowned for their vibrant “Industry” such as Warri (Delta state), Portharcourt (Rivers state), Owerri (Imo State), Enugu (Enugu state), Abuja and of course Lagos state. I’m not here to advertise prostitution; I’m here to simply voice out my frustration.

Prostitution is popular known as the world’s oldest profession which I still find hard to believe while not farming. Anyways prostitution occurs in various forms depending on the location. However in most civilized economies Brothels are setup and customers come to patronize them while  in developing economies it is quite common to spot them along the road sides on very skimpy clothes that leaves nothing to the imagination. However this profession which I have  described generates over $100 billion annually *jaw drops*.Although proper data collection have not been clearly collated in Africa and some parts in the middle east, but there are over 42million prostitutes worldwide and its steadily on the rise basically for two major reasons poverty and Naivety.

Income from prostitution isn’t really a conventional way of making money but whether you like it or not, it in one way or another builds the economy. Now clearly no country will have a detailed analysis of how much is earned in this industry but it is captured under hidden economy. Now basically what hidden economy shows are those incomes made by various individual in a country which may not necessarily be legal. So the GDP captures there spending and tries to adjust itself to the figures generated. Other industries which might be captured under hidden economy could be armed robbery, cocaine, weed etc.

However it is quite unfortunate that most of the prostitutes are being beaten up, used and sold as inferior goods. The huge sum of money made by the cabals never reaches the hands of those naïve girls and boys. They are tied up forcefully in a web of lies, sex and immorality, which is mind blowing. Prostitution leads to Nowhere, it brings no pleasure and it brings no love. Young girls in their thirst for lust, and money forget their true potential.

I wrote this article to inspire our girls to be strong willed, to be motivated and to be moved by a greater force and purpose in life. I strongly stand against prostitution and human trafficking especially against young naïve girls. Its really not about the money but about our humanity, morality, and love towards one another.
